Computer aided engineering

DCA has invested extensively in Computer Aided Engineering software and provides a high specification, networked PC on every engineer’s and designer’s desk. Our mechanical software also integrates with our electronic design systems, allowing PCB footprints, component placements and spatial definitions to be directly imported into the 3D mechanical model.

As a result, every member of our project teams can readily access a wide range of Computer Aided Engineering software, which allows them not only to computer model their designs, but also to animate them for collision checking, to analyse them dynamically and statically for loads, deflections and stresses, and to optimise them for manufacture.

The aim on every project is to carry out comprehensive virtual prototyping using Computer Aided Engineering tools as early as possible in the design process in order to establish feasibility before large investments have to be made in the tooling and production of physical parts.

There are some circumstances where Computer Aided Engineering is used to evaluate situations that would be either impossible, prohibitively time consuming or expensive to test using real hardware. However, wherever possible we aim to validate the computer analyses on the final design proposal using physical testing and prototyping.
