Prototypes that are
visually and functionally representative of the final
manufactured solution can be produced to provide final
confirmation of the design prior to committing to mass
production. Final material properties are mimicked as
closely as possible within the limitations of lead-time,
prototyping materials and processes.
Such prototypes can often also
be used for certification pre-testing and user trials
well in advance of full-scale production. Extensive
testing and evaluation of this nature will help to ensure
that the design is proven and frozen before major capital
investments are made in production tooling and equipment.
