| DCA uses its portable
Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) arm to scan existing
physical parts and assemblies to create accurate CAD data
from them. This enables us to initiate projects using
hand crafted visual models, ergonomic rigs or clay models
where these offer the most effective and efficient way
of developing product external features and forms.
Once the form of a physical model
has been approved its surfaces can be accurately scanned
using the touch probe. This data faithfully reproduced
in 3D CAD and used to create the surfaces that will
then be used to develop a complete product solution
that within an external from that exactly matches the
visual and ergonomic design of the original concept
models.

| Reverse engineering
is also particularly useful when we are asked to refine or add
to existing products for which no CAD data is available. The
CMM arm is used to import the actual part geometry into our
CAD software, where it can be manipulated and used as the reference
for the creation of additional features, parts and assemblies. |
