In our increasingly virtual world where services and brands have become organic ecosystems the artefact often remains the tangible connection to the user. It can be the central manifestation of our comprehension and command of technology.
In this context we believe industrial design should be informed and relevant. It should be highly creative and push what is technically possible. We achieve this by integrating the industrial design team with research and engineering disciplines and hiring designers who understand strategic context and are ruthless about the product detail.
It is our business to know what is going on, to have an opinion and to hypothesise about what is next.
Our industrial design team is continually exploring the latest design trends. Members of the team visit and often present at trade shows, conferences and forums around the world. On their return, images, thoughts and hypotheses are continuously communicated internally through immersive spaces and structured sector and skill forums. This enables our design team to build an inherent knowledge of emerging, mature or declining design trends that can be used efficiently to inform and inspire our design work.
VISUAL BRAND LANGUAGE
Your product is an ambassador for your brand. Can your product stand alone and communicate your brand values?
Communicating a brand’s essence through the design of its products and packaging helps to build a deep, consistent, emotional connection with consumers. A visual brand language (VBL) is a concise and powerful way to translate a brand’s unique values and personality, its DNA, into tangible physical elements, such as form, detail, material and colour.
A good VBL guides. It does not dictate. Providing both inspiration and direction for designers, our VBL guidelines also equip brand managers with a powerful tool to brief and control design projects, and to evaluate the success of a design in expressing their brand’s core attributes and values.
COLOUR MATERIAL FINISH
Our industrial design team can help develop an understanding of how different colours, materials and finishes (CMF) will be perceived by your customers and why.
We not only recommend the right CMF strategy to communicate your product's qualities, but, most importantly, how this CMF strategy can be implemented and controlled through production and use.
CREATIVITY AND CONCEPT GENERATION
Our industrial design team is made up of passionate individual designers who respect and follow insight, while also bringing a high level of personal creativity to a project.
All our designers have an egoless ability to build off each other’s ideas continually and take full advantage of their tight integration with other disciplines. This, combined with our use of highly visual immersive spaces and a host of creative thinking techniques, all helps to generate a rich stream of concepts, ideas and creativity.
To achieve alignment, to create a vision, to manage expectations, to gain momentum, to get insight, to generate confidence, to define intent, or simply to excite; good communication of a concept is vital.
To do this we use the most appropriate and efficient tools and methods. Visually, the team use hand sketches, 2D computer rendering, 3D animation and video. Physically, our workshop facilities enable the team to communicate ideas ranging from a simple visual form model to the most complex electromechnical rig or interface prototype.
DEVELOPMENT AND REFINEMENT
Our industrial design team aims to create objects with clarity and simplicity. This can only be achieved through focus and refinement.
Often scorned as a designer’s mantra, ‘less is more’ should be a guiding principle to all great product design and product strategy. It takes time to develop and distil a product to what is essential, efficient and relevant. Once this is achieved the product can be further crafted and refined through prototyping and CMF development to make every user interaction an intuitive delight.
Vision is worth little without execution.
The smallest sink mark on a product’s moulding can undermine the brand in the user’s hand. We ask our clients to allow our designers and engineers to be ruthless with the detail, keeping them integrated and close all the way through prototyping and manufacturing. Then you can achieve products with purpose and soul through beautiful aesthetics, elegant engineering and intuitive usability.
