Fire, safety and security

Functionality, robustness and reliability are the over riding factors in these markets. We use techniques such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk Analysis and Function Tree Analysis (FTA) throughout our projects to minimise the risk of failures and to ensure that only safe failure modes are possible.

DCA's mechanical and electronic engineers also use computer modelling and analysis in conjunction with test rigs and prototypes to confirm the design functions correctly under all anticipated use and abuse conditions.

Most of these products are designed for high stress, emergency situations. So it is vital that their use should be straightforward and self-explanatory. User-focused design and research tools such as Behavioural Research and Focus Groups can help to ensure that when a crisis occurs, your products are quickly and faultlessly deployed.

As well as ensuring that a product is always used correctly, our Industrial Design team employ their experience of this specialised market to develop styling and visual cues that demonstrate fitness for purpose. As well as instilling a sense of trust and confidence in the product at the time of use, this can also be a strong influencer at the point of purchase.
