Robustness and reliability

Will your product cope with every anticipated use in every expected environment? Can it be manufactured efficiently, with low rejection rates? Will it function at all extremes of tolerances?

Through many years’ experience of designing safety critical products we have developed processes and techniques that drive robustness and reliability into our designs. Our engineers understand the principles that yield robust designs. We combine this understanding with structured risk analysis tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to identify, quantify and mitigate the specific risks associated with product assemblies or individual components, and their proposed methods of manufacture.

We also carry out detailed tolerance and sensitivity studies, combining theoretical tools like CETol with systematic testing based on Design of Experiments or Taguchi principles. These establish the critical parameters that will most influence the performance and reliability of your product, so that we can reduce the design’s sensitivity to manufacturing variability or external disturbances.
