A number of our designs are produced in their hundreds of millions. Here, making even fractional savings on component costs has obvious benefits. But even at far lower volumes, cost is usually a critical factor in determining the success of a product.
Reducing part count and complexity; using less and lower specification material; increasing product modularity and component reuse; or reducing production and assembly times all offer potential cost benefits. Equally, addressing secondary cost factors like packaging and distribution costs; disposal costs; and warranty claims offers commercial benefits.
However, blindly tackling cost without consideration for the value side of the equation risks disappointing and, ultimately, losing your customer. Whether we use a formal Value Engineering approach or not, our aim is always to align costs with value so that your investment is concentrated in the areas most appreciated by your customer.
