Leo Cancer Care’s Ruby radiotherapy treatment system wins prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD

Published on: 29th February 2024

We are excited to announce that DCA and Leo Cancer Care have been honoured with a prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD for the design of the Ruby treatment system.

Since 1954, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been recognized as an arbiter of quality for excellent design. The iF Design brand is renowned worldwide for outstanding design services, and the iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most important design prizes in the world.

The Ruby system impressed the 132-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, with its innovative and pioneering approach to cancer treatment. With almost 11,000 entries submitted from across 72 countries, it is a mark of the exceptional quality of design that the product has been recognized with this global accolade.

Named after Ruby Payne-Scott, an Australian pioneer in radio physics and radio astronomy and the first female radio astronomer, the Ruby system is a complete upright cancer treatment solution: a real-time, image-guided photon radiotherapy system.

Malcolm Boyd, Senior Sector Manager at DCA commented, "With someone in the UK being diagnosed with cancer every two minutes, having the opportunity to support the development of treatment systems for the future is a real privilege. The team at DCA are so proud of the iF DESIGN AWARD, especially as it comes on top of the GOOD DESIGN® Award announced in December".

"Being honoured with a prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD as well a GOOD DESIGN® Award is testament to the world-class design efforts, passionate teamwork, and fantastic collaboration between Leo Cancer Care and DCA design teams. Congratulations to all involved – a fantastic recognition!" Robert Woolston, DCA's Managing Director.
