Bentley Torcal: DCA contributions revealed ahead of September launch
With the launch of Bentley’s Torcal approaching in September, we are delighted to see several interior elements developed and proven as detailed concepts by DCA in collaboration with Bentley’s design teams progress into this exciting new production vehicle.
The Torcal is Bentley’s first all-electric SUV, marking an important step in the company’s transition towards an electric future. More than simply replacing the combustion engine with an electric powertrain, the Torcal represents a new approach to the Bentley experience, with a strong emphasis on creating a more immersive and emotionally engaging interior.
Bentley has placed particular emphasis on the sensory experience of the vehicle, bringing together light, sound and user interaction content to create a distinctive atmosphere for occupants. The Bentley brand character is carried into the Torcal interior through a sensory “Curation Engine”, harmonising light, climate, air quality and vehicle dynamics with an acoustic “Bentley Dynamic Symphony” powered by real drums and bass guitar rather than artificial engine sounds.
Over the past decade, DCA has worked closely with Bentley’s design teams to explore and develop new technologies, interfaces and experiences for the future of the Bentley cabin. This work, combining the best from the worlds of physical and digital user interactions, has been proven on a series of demonstrator platforms and showcased through Bentley concept vehicle programmes including the EXP 100 GT and the recent EXP 15.
Our concept work showcased on the Torcal includes the development of the Curation Engine and Waterfall Lighting, as well as the application of image capture technologies, used to create dynamic, natural and emotive imagery throughout the vehicle’s interior. First explored through DCA concept programmes and proof-of-principle demonstrator rigs, these elements have continued to evolve through Bentley’s development process and are now being realised on this milestone production vehicle.
The Curation Engine is a physical interface designed to give occupants an intuitive and engaging way to shape the character of the vehicle. Combined with Bentley’s atmospheric Waterfall Lighting, it forms part of a broader sensory experience, bringing together interaction, light, sound and ambience within the cabin.
DCA has also supported Bentley in developing the image capture technology, enabling the creation of dynamic visual content that contributes to the distinctive atmosphere and user experience of the Torcal interior. Because digitally generated graphics can struggle to replicate the richness and authenticity of physical materials, real glass and crystal elements were captured to preserve their organic light refraction, subtle variations and natural imperfections, thereby creating a more authentic and emotive visual experience within the cabin.
Seeing all these technologies progress from initial concepts and experimental demonstrators that combined the skills of our mechanical, electronics and software engineers with those of our interior and interaction designers, into a production vehicle is a significant milestone for the DCA team. We are looking forward excitedly to the official launch of the Bentley Torcal in September 2026, and to seeing these DCA-developed interior elements forming a core part of Bentley’s first all-electric SUV.
